Oklahoma Cotton Production Forecast up 30 Percent from October Forecast and Up 15 Percent from 2022

On November 9, 2023, USDA NASS released the November Crop Production report. Overall, corn production was up 1 percent from the October forecast, soybean production was up 1 percent, and cotton production was up 2 percent.

For the U.S., all cotton production is forecast at 13.1 million 480-pound bales, up 2 percent from the previous forecast but down 10 percent from 2022. Based on conditions as of November 1, yields are expected to average 783 pounds per harvested acre, up 16 pounds from the previous forecast but down 167 pounds from 2022. Upland cotton production is forecast at 12.7 million 480-pound bales, up 2 percent from the previous forecast but down 9 percent from 2022. Pima cotton production is forecast at 354,000 bales, down 1 percent from the previous forecast and down 25 percent from 2022. All cotton area harvested is forecast at 8.02 million acres, unchanged from the previous forecast but up 10 percent from 2022.

In Oklahoma, cotton production is forecast at 350 thousand 480-pound bales, up 30 percent from the October forecast and up 15 percent from 2022. Based on conditions as of November 1, yields are expected to average 542 pounds per acre harvested, up 124 pounds from the previous forecast and down 92 pounds from 2022. For 2023, it is estimated that Oklahoma will harvest 310,000 acres of cotton, unchanged from the October estimate and up 35 percent from 2022.

In Kansas, crop production is forecast at 165 thousand 480-pound bales, unchanged from the October estimate and down .6 percent from 2022. Based on conditions as of November 1, yields are expected to average 900 pounds per acre harvested, unchanged from the previous forecast and up 323 pounds from 2022. For 2023, it is estimated that Kansas will harvest 88,000 acres of cotton, unchanged from the October forecast and down 36 from 2022.

In Texas, cotton production is forecast at 3.6 million 480-pound bales, down 5 percent from the October estimate and up 17 percent from 2022. Based on conditions as of November 1, yields are expected to average 489 pounds per harvested acre, down 26 pounds from the October forecast and down 245 pounds from 2022. For 2023, it is estimated that Texas will harvest 3.5 million acres of cotton, unchanged from the October estimate and up 76 percent from 2022.
