Oklahoma Winter Wheat Conditions Show Minor Improvement From Last Week’s Crop Progress

SOUTHERN PLAINS WINTER WHEAT:

In Oklahoma, winter wheat planted reached 91 percent, down 3 points from the previous year and down 2 points from normal. Winter wheat emerged reached 79 percent, down 2 points from the previous year and down 3 points from normal. Winter wheat conditions rated 49 percent good to excellent, 43 percent fair, and 8 percent poor to very poor. Last week’s conditions rated 49 percent good to excellent, 35 percent fair, and 16 percent poor to very poor.

In Kansas, winter wheat emerged was 86 percent, ahead of 74 percent last year and 81 percent for the five-year average. Winter wheat conditions rated 31 percent good to excellent, 36 percent fair and 33 percent poor to very poor. Last week’s conditions rated 31 percent good to excellent, 35 percent fair and 34 percent poor to very poor. 

In Texas, winter wheat planted reached 82 percent, down 10 percentage points from the previous year and down 4 points from the five-year average. Winter wheat emerged reached 66 percent, down 8 percentage points from the previous year and down 4 points from the five-year average. Winter wheat conditions rated 40 percent good to excellent, 39 percent fair and 21 percent poor to very poor. Last week’s conditions rated 44 percent good to excellent, 37 percent fair and 19 percent poor to very poor. 

U.S. CROP PROGRESS:

Winter wheat planted for the U.S. reached 93 percent, down 2 percentage points from the previous year and even with the five-year average. Winter wheat emerged reached 81 percent, up 1 point from the previous year and the average. Winter wheat conditions rated 47 percent good to excellent, 36 percent fair and 17 percent poor to very poor. Last week’s conditions rated 50 percent good to excellent, 33 percent fair, and 17 percent poor to very poor.

Corn harvested reached 88 percent, down 4 percentage points from the previous year and up 2 points from the five-year average.

Soybeans harvested reached 95 percent, down 1 percentage point from the previous year and up 4 points from the five-year average.

Cotton harvested reached 67 percent, down 3 percentage points from the previous year and up 4 points from the five-year average.

OKLAHOMA:

In Oklahoma, Rainfall totals averaged 0.25 inches. According to the November 7th US Drought Monitor Report, drought conditions were rated 50 percent abnormally dry to exceptional drought, down 50 points from last year. Additionally, 36 percent of the state was in the moderate drought to exceptional drought categories, down 62 points from the previous year. Statewide, temperatures averaged in the upper 50’s to low 60’s. Newly emerged wheat was in need of rainfall with some areas showing signs of decent stands.

Soybeans harvested reached 70 percent, up 2 points from the previous year and up 8 points from normal. Soybean conditions rated 47 percent good to excellent, 40 percent fair and 13 percent poor to very poor. Last week’s conditions rated the same.

Peanuts harvested reached 95 percent, up 12 points from the previous year and up 18 points from normal. Peanut conditions rated 98 percent good to excellent and 2 percent fair. Last week’s conditions rated the same.

Cotton harvested reached 60 percent, up 1 point from the previous year and up 10 points from normal. Cotton conditions rated 5 percent good to excellent, 63 percent fair and 32 percent poor to very poor. Last week’s conditions rated 5 percent good to excellent, 55 percent fair and 40 percent poor to very poor.

Hay: The fifth cutting of alfalfa hay reached 49 percent, down 10 points from the previous year but up 18 points from normal. The third cutting of other hay reached 90 percent. The fourth cutting of other hay reached 32 percent, down 22 points from the previous year but unchanged from normal.

Livestock conditions rated 61 percent good to excellent, 34 percent fair and 5 percent poor to very poor. Last week’s conditions rated 64 percent good to excellent, 28 percent fair and 8 percent poor to very poor. 

Pasture and range conditions rated 32 percent good to excellent, 35 percent fair and 33 percent poor to very poor. Last week’s conditions rated 33 percent good to excellent, 36 percent fair and 31 percent poor to very poor. 

KANSAS:

Winter wheat emerged was 86 percent, ahead of 74 percent last year and 81 percent for the five-year average. Winter wheat conditions rated 31 percent good to excellent, 36 percent fair and 33 percent poor to very poor. Last week’s conditions rated 31 percent good to excellent, 35 percent fair and 34 percent poor to very poor. 

Corn harvested was 97 percent, near 96 percent last year and 93 percent average.

Soybeans harvested was 92 percent, equal to last year, and ahead of the 86 percent average.

Sorghum harvested was 90 percent, near 89 percent last year, and ahead of 82 percent average.

Cotton harvested was 65 percent, behind 77 percent last year, but well ahead of 38 percent average. Cotton conditions rated 39 percent good to excellent, 43 percent fair and 18 percent poor to very poor. Last week’s conditions rated 39 percent good to excellent, 41 percent fair and 20 percent poor to very poor.

Pasture and range conditions rated 11 percent good to excellent, 33 percent fair and 56 percent poor to very poor. Last week’s conditions rated 12 percent good to excellent, 34 percent fair and 55 percent poor to very poor.

TEXAS:

Winter wheat planted reached 82 percent, down 10 percentage points from the previous year and down 4 points from the five-year average. Winter wheat emerged reached 66 percent, down 8 percentage points from the previous year and down 4 points from the five-year average. Winter wheat conditions rated 40 percent good to excellent, 39 percent fair and 21 percent poor to very poor. Last week’s conditions rated 44 percent good to excellent, 37 percent fair and 19 percent poor to very poor. 

Cotton bolls opening reached 95 percent, down 4 percentage points from the previous year and down 3 from the five-year average. Cotton harvested reached 56 percent, down 4 points from the previous year and up 1 from the average. Cotton conditions rated 10 percent good to excellent, 24 percent fair and 66 percent poor to very poor. Last week’s conditions rated 8 percent good to excellent, 21 percent fair and 71 percent poor to very poor.

Peanuts mature reached 95 percent, up 11 percentage points from the previous year and up 19 points from the five-year average. Peanuts harvested reached 66 percent, down 3 points from the previous year and up 2 points from the average. Peanut conditions rated 37 percent good to excellent, 55 percent fair and 8 percent poor to very poor. Last week’s conditions rated the same.
