The Presidential Advisory Council on Combating Antibiotic-Resistant Bacteria (PACCARB) announced Lucas Pantaleon, DVM, MS, DACVIM, MBA, will represent the National Institute for Animal Agriculture (NIAA) on the PACCARB board during the 13th Annual NIAA Antibiotics Symposium. Established in 2015, PACCARB is a federal advisory council that provides advice, information, and recommendations on all things related to AMR to the Secretary of Health and Human Services (HHS) in close consultation with the Departments of Agriculture (USDA) and Defense (DoD). The PACCARB board is comprised of human, animal, plant, and environmental leaders.  Dr. Pantaleon will bring his expertise as a veterinarian and leader within animal agriculture to the board.

“We are excited to have the NIAA join our Council and continue the important collaborative conversations to combat the threat of AMR,” said PACCARB executive director, Jomana Musmar, MS, PhD.

Dr. Pantaleon is an active member of NIAA. He has served on the board of directors and serves as the chair of the Animal Disease Issues & Emergency Management Council.  “I am truly honored to have been nominated as representative of the National Institute for Animal Agriculture, on the Presidential Advisory Council on Combating Antibiotic-Resistant Bacteria (Advisory Council),” said Dr. Pantaleon. “I look forward to learning and working together across disciplines to tackle the complex issue of AMR.”

Additionally, Dr. Pantaleon is an involved member of the NIAA Antibiotics Council. The purpose of the NIAA Antibiotics Council is to enhance an animal agriculture industry that is aligned with judicious antibiotic use policies and practices.  Since 2011, the Council has hosted an Antibiotics Symposium that convenes industry, academic, and policy professionals to discuss One Health, responsible antibiotics use, and antimicrobial resistance.
