Oklahoma’s Winter Wheat Conditions Show Slight Decline This Week

SOUTHERN PLAINS WINTER WHEAT:

In Oklahoma, winter wheat planted reached 95 percent, unchanged from the previous year but down 1 point from normal. Winter wheat emerged reached 89 percent, unchanged from the previous year but up 1 point from normal. Winter wheat conditions rated 44 percent good to excellent, 45 percent fair and 11 percent poor to very poor. Last week’s conditions rated 49 percent good to excellent, 43 percent fair, and 8 percent poor to very poor.

In Kansas, winter wheat emerged was 91 percent ahead of 80 percent last year and 85 percent for the five-year average. Winter wheat conditions rated 33 percent good to excellent, 35 percent fair and 32 percent poor to very poor. Last week’s conditions rated 31 percent good to excellent, 36 percent fair and 33 percent poor to very poor. 

In Texas, winter wheat planted reached 87 percent, down 8 percentage points from the previous year and down 2 from the five-year average. Winter wheat emerged reached 73 percent, down 6 points from the previous year and down 2 from the average. Winter wheat conditions rated 45 percent good to excellent, 35 percent fair and 20 percent poor to very poor. Last week’s conditions rated 40 percent good to excellent, 39 percent fair and 21 percent poor to very poor.

U.S. CROP PROGRESS:

Winter wheat planted reached 95 percent, down 3 percentage points from the previous year and down 1 point from the five-year average. Winter wheat emerged reached 87 percent, up 1 point from the previous year and up 2 points from the five-year average. Winter wheat conditions rated 48 percent good to excellent, 35 percent fair and 17 percent poor to very poor. Last week’s conditions rated 47 percent good to excellent, 36 percent fair and 17 percent poor to very poor. 

Corn harvested for the U.S. reached 93 percent, down 4 percentage points from the previous year and up 2 points from the five-year average.

Cotton harvested for the U.S. reached 77 percent, down 1 percentage point from the previous year and up 6 points from the five-year average.

OKLAHOMA:

Winter wheat planted reached 95 percent, unchanged from the previous year but down 1 point from normal. Winter wheat emerged reached 89 percent, unchanged from the previous year but up 1 point from normal. Winter wheat conditions rated 44 percent good to excellent, 45 percent fair and 11 percent poor to very poor. Last week’s conditions rated 49 percent good to excellent, 43 percent fair, and 8 percent poor to very poor.

Sorghum harvested for grain reached 91 percent, down 5 points from the previous year but up 1 point from normal.

Soybeans harvested reached 76 percent, down 4 points from the previous year but up 3 points from normal.

Cotton harvested reached 74 percent, up 1 point from the previous year and up 9 points from normal.

Hay: The fifth cutting of alfalfa hay reached 55 percent, down 9 points from the previous year but up 21 points from normal. The third cutting of other hay reached 95 percent. The fourth cutting of other hay reached 41 percent, down 18 points from the previous year but unchanged from normal.

Livestock conditions rated 58 percent good to excellent, 35 percent fair and 7 percent poor to very poor. Last week’s conditions rated 61 percent good to excellent, 34 percent fair and 5 percent poor to very poor. 

Pasture and range conditions rated 31 percent good to excellent, 34 percent fair and 35 percent poor to very poor. Last week’s conditions rated 32 percent good to excellent, 35 percent fair and 33 percent poor to very poor.

KANSAS:

Winter wheat emerged was 91 percent ahead of 80 percent last year and 85 percent for the five-year average. Winter wheat conditions rated 33 percent good to excellent, 35 percent fair and 32 percent poor to very poor. Last week’s conditions rated 31 percent good to excellent, 36 percent fair and 33 percent poor to very poor. 

Soybeans harvested was 96 percent, equal to last year, and ahead of 91 percent average.

Sorghum harvested was 95 percent, near 94 percent last year, and ahead of 88 percent average.

Cotton harvested was 73 percent, behind 84 percent last year, but well ahead of 50 percent average.

TEXAS:

Winter wheat planted reached 87 percent, down 8 percentage points from the previous year and down 2 from the five-year average. Winter wheat emerged reached 73 percent, down 6 points from the previous year and down 2 from the average. Winter wheat conditions rated 45 percent good to excellent, 35 percent fair and 20 percent poor to very poor. Last week’s conditions rated 40 percent good to excellent, 39 percent fair and 21 percent poor to very poor.

Cotton harvested reached 68 percent, down 2 percentage points from the previous year and up 5 points from the five-year average.

Peanuts harvested reached 75 percent, down 3 points from the previous year and even with the average.

Soybeans harvested reached 95 percent, down 5 percentage points from the previous year and up 1 point from the average.

Range and pasture conditions rated 16 percent good to excellent, 32 percent fair and 52 percent poor to very poor. Last week’s conditions rated 14 percent good to excellent, 31 percent fair, and 55 percent poor to very poor.
