Alva FFA Active picking up Awards across the State

In the past several months, the Alva FFA Chapter has been active throughout several areas of the organization. At the beginning of November, the Alva FFA had 4 former members receive their American FFA Degree, the highest degree that can be awarded to an FFA Member.

These recipients were Kate Leeper, Mattie Pettus, Jarin Shirley, and Payden Nusser. Two current members, Jansen Shirley, and Kayla Leeper, also attended the National Convention. The chapter also held the annual Alva FFA Friendsgiving Chapter Meeting and the new Alva FFA Constitution was voted in.

The Ag Literacy Committee spent an afternoon at Longfellow Elementary teaching the third graders about cattle and cattle products. On November 16, Jansen Shirley and Katelee Martin competed in the Northwest Area AFR Speech Contest. Jansen Shirley placed fourth in the Senior Agriscience Division with her speech titled “Wheat: The Grain of Life.” Katelee Martin placed first in the Intermediate Agriscience division, advancing to the state contest with her speech titled “What If.” On November 17, the livestock judging team attended the Fourth Annual CUTS livestock judging contest in Cherokee, Oklahoma.

In that contest, the senior FFA Team placed fifth, and Ember Sandoval placed third in the Junior FFA division. On December 2, Katelee Martin attended the State AFR Speech Contest and placed fourth in the Intermediate Agriscience division.

Also on December 2 and 3, Merritt Mantz, Kaylee Springer, Joslynn Birdshead, and Sydney Sanborn attended the first LEAD 360 conference in Sparks, Oklahoma.

The Alva FFA chapter plans to continue to stay busy with various livestock judging and committee activities as well as
livestock shows
