Off to a Fast Start in 2023- DASNR Dean Jayson Lusk Looks Forward to 2024

It’s been a non stop six months for the new Vice President and Dean of the Division of Agriculture and Natural Resources Dr. Jayson Lusk, after assuming his position at OSU in July of this year. Oklahoma Farm Report’s Ron Hays caught up with Dr. Lusk at the Christmas Party hosted by Alumni of the Oklahoma Ag Leadership Program for Class XXI of OALP.

Ron Hays reviews 2023 with Dr. Jayson Lusk and they look into 2024 as well.

This is Jayson Lusk’s second stint at OSU- he was professor and the WIllard Sparks Endowed Chair in Ag Economics from 2005 to 2017 in Stillwater. Starting in 2017, he served Purdue University as a distinguished professor and head of the Agricultural Economics Department before the move back to OSU this past summer.

Dr. Lusk has arrived in the middle of the building of the New Frontiers New Ag Hall building project- and he tells Hays that the race is on to get that facility complete. “The scheduled completion date is the end of July- we have classes scheduled in the building for the end of August- we better get done because I don’t know where we have classes if it’s not finished. But progress is well under way- it’s wonderful to see that building come up- that facility is being made possible by the generosity of our many alums and donors around the state and around the country- it’s just great to see the support we have out there to support the next generation of students.”

Beyond the completion of the New Frontiers New Ag Hall- Dr. Lusk says of 2024 “One of our high priorities is reinvesting in the Extension Service and that will be one of our aspirations to really add resources…we are really proud to have a presence in all 77 counties and we want to continue to have that- we have to continue to find ways to afford those activities and to add more and adjust and to adapt to the modern world that we live in today and to carry the knowledge that we develop at the University out to people who need it.”
