Tyler Norvell Looking Forward to Year Four of Cattlemen’s Congress in OKC

Pen Show- 2023 Cattlemen’s Congress

Senior Farm and Ranch Broadcaster, Ron Hays, is talking with Tyler Norvell about the 2024 Cattlemen’s Congress, coming up on December 30 through January 11 in Oklahoma City.

This coming Cattlemen’s Congress will mark year four for the national cattle show. Each year, the event has made changes to become better regarding not only the schedule but infrastructure as well.

The Supreme Drive day on January 9th will be a busy one- as they have moved the Market Steer Show to that day along with the Prospect Show- all of that ahead of the Supreme Junior Female, Open Female and Open Bull Selections. The Collegiate Livestock Judging Contest which has been held that day in past years is moving to Monday, January 8th.

Improvements have been made this year to the electricity in the barns, Norvell said, which will hopefully help exhibitors not rely on generators as much.

Norvel said the sales featured at the show have continued to grow, as there are sales for everyone, from live sales to embryo sales.

“We feel like that is what has set us apart long-term is the commerce that we can bring along with the show,” Norvell said.

The trade show is another feature of Cattlemen’s Congress that Norvell said brings people in. Norvell said the show is not as big as Cowboy Christmas at the NFR, but it is the same type of merchandise, and visitors can expect excellent quality.

“It is a massive trade show,” Norvell said.

Bringing a national cattle show into Oklahoma has fostered the support of cattlemen in the state and outside of the state, Novell added.

“You have so many people now that are coming here that are saying, ‘Alright, we are going to come show in Oklahoma City, then we are going to Denver,’” Norvell said. “A handful of them are even going to Fort Worth after Denver.”

As the show is centrally located, Norvell said he sees Cattlemen’s Congress already becoming part of the “cycle” for cattle exhibitors’ traveling to shows during this time of year.

The Beef Buzz is a regular feature heard on radio stations around the region on the Radio Oklahoma Ag Network and is a regular audio feature found on this website as well.
