Dr. Jayson Lusk, And Sorghum Experts at Agrifest Seminar

New Oklahoma State University Agricultural Sciences & Natural Resources Vice President and Dean Dr. Jayson Lusk will lead off the Friday afternoon seminars at 1 p.m. at AgriFest at the Chisholm Trail Expo Center. The new National Sorghum Producers Executive Director Greg Ruehle will also speak to area farmers at the meeting and answer questions.

Sorghum growers, farmers interested in planting sorghum, and any other area agriculturists are welcome at the program scheduled for 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. in the seminar room in the northeast corner of the Expo Center.

Steve Carson, field representative and ag policy advisor to U.S. Senator James Lankford will also update attendees on the new federal Farm Bill Congress is drafting as well as other national issues. OSU Associate Professor and Cropping Systems Specialist Dr. Josh Lofton will share findings from the university’s sorghum variety trials at test plots around the state last year and will talk with producers about raising sorghum in Oklahoma.

Sorghum is an ancient, nutrient-rich grain which can be grown as a grain, forage or sweet crop. It is one of the top five cereal crops in the world. The United States is the world’s largest producer of grain sorghum, having produced 373 million bushels in 2020, with more than 300,000 acres planted in Oklahoma.
