Bob Rodenberger Sees Positive Times on the Way for the Feeder Cattle Market

Listen to KC Sheperd talk with Bob Rodenberger about the latest in the cattle markets.

Farm Director KC Sheperd is back talking with Bob Rodenberger, a partner with Stockman Oklahoma Livestock, as he gives the latest on the cattle markets.

Rodenberger said that the cattle markets started out this week higher than the week prior, and all markets have been higher than 2023 in general.

“Yesterday, at our market at Apache, we had a light run, but feeder cattle had an awfully good selection of quality, and that market was better,” Rodenberger said. “We had our video market and had a lot of good demand on it Wednesday and sold about 1,000 head on it.”

Looking into next week, Rodenberger said he expects a run at OKC National Stockyards from 7,000 to 9,000, depending on the weather.

“It is muddy,” Rodenberger said. “It is hard to get around.”

Regarding the feeder cattle market, Rodenberger said the lower cost of corn has helped.

“Your cost of gains has gone down from the $1.30 to $1.50 down to $1.00 to $1.20,” Rodenberger said.
