Ben Hale with Western Livestock Auctions Says Feeder Cattle Market is Bouncing Back

Listen to Ron Hays talk with Ben Hale about the latest in the cattle markets.

Today starts a weekly visit with Ben Hale of Western Livestock Auctions as he talks with Senior Farm and Ranch Broadcaster Ron Hays about the latest in the markets and more. Established in 1995, Western has grown into a multi-generational family-owned and operated business and stands as a symbol of tradition, excellence, and a deep-rooted passion for the cattle industry.

Located in Oklahoma City, Woodward, and Comanche, Hale said Western Livestock will have its 29th anniversary on February 20th.

“It has been a pleasure to be able to do what we love to do every day in cattle business marketing,” Hale said.

Hale said about 12,500 cattle ran through the sale at the Oklahoma City Stockyards this week. While the feeder market was tough in the fall, Hale said it is bouncing back.

“We have had a good run,” Hale said. “Feeder steer deal was sure steady to 4 (cwt) higher. Feeder heifers could have been 5 to 10 (cwt higher) … it has sure been climbing every day.”

Looking ahead, Hale said there is a lot of opportunity in the next few months in the calf and feeder cattle markets. Hale said he is cautiously optimistic going forward.
