As Americans think about eating for a healthy heart, many feel they’re forced to choose between a healthy diet and their love of beef. But, contrary to some misinformation on this topic, you can have both! Numerous research studies have shown that incorporating lean beef in a heart-healthy diet can help maintain healthy cholesterol and blood pressure levels.

This month we encourage you to highlight the story of beef and heart health through your advocacy efforts. Read more below for tips on joining these conversations this month.

Share these tips to help others incorporate lean beef into their lifestyle:

  • Choose lean beef at the meat counter. There are more than 36 cuts of beef that meet government guidelines for lean. A tip for finding lean beef cuts is to look for the terms “round” or “loin” (e.g.: Sirloin, Tenderloin, or Eye of Round).
  • Keep portion size in mind. A sensible and satisfying 3 ounces cooked serving of lean beef is about the size of a deck of cards.

Trim away any visible fat from cooked beef before serving.
