Farm Director KC Sheperd is back talking with Bob Rodenberger, a partner with Stockman Oklahoma Livestock, as he gives the latest on the cattle markets.
Rodenberger said that runs have been normal this week, and the markets have still been great.
“What I saw was pretty much a steady market with some caution in it,” Rodenberger said.
The feedlots are asking for higher prices that the packers are reluctant to pay, Rodenberger said, and he expects things to be pretty cautionary between now and the end of May.
“Our cow numbers are down, and the cow killing prices are still great,” Rodenberger said. “We are running short on cow kill, so your hamburger meat, your grind, is worth quite a bit.”
Rodenberger said the futures market has been pretty erratic the last few days, seeing four-to-five-dollar swings in a single day.
“I would just say optimistically, we will see a steady feeder market,” Rodenberger said.
