Pork Exports Soar to New Heights in 2024

U.S. pork exports are off to a great start in 2024, showcasing robust performance across various markets. Exports totaled 251,424 metric tons (mt) in January, up 6% from a year ago, while export value also increased 6% to $682.1 million.

Mexico: Leading the charge, Mexico demonstrated another remarkable performance with exports totaling 102,181 mt, a 6% increase from the previous year and the second-largest volume on record. The export value increased by 8% to $207.2 million, ranking as the seventh-largest in history. 

Korea: Experiencing an extraordinary ascent, exports to Korea increased by an impressive 53% compared to the previous year, reaching 20,727 mt. The export value increased by 51% to $67.6 million.

South America: Fueled by exceptional growth in Colombia, pork exports to South America saw a substantial 53% increase from the previous year, totaling 11,464 mt and valued at $32.1 million, a 62% increase.

Australia: Building on the dramatic rebound witnessed in 2023, pork exports to Australia maintained their momentum in January, increasing an astounding 374% to 9,059 mt from the previous year’s low volume. The export value followed suit, increasing by 363% to $32.8 million. Notably, U.S. pork regained market share from the EU in Australia during this period.

Malaysia: Reflecting continued strength, exports to Malaysia, which achieved record-high levels in 2023, remained robust in January. Shipments increased from the previous year, reaching 503 mt, while the export value surged by 850% to $1.5 million. 

Variety Meats: U.S. pork variety meats, which attained record-high exports in 2023, continued their strong performance in January. Shipments increased by 7% to 50,353 mt, with a value of $109.3 million.
