OSU’s Kim Anderson Anticipates Next Week’s Perspective Plantings and Quarterly Grain Stocks Reports

Listen to Kim Anderson talk about the latest in the crop markets.

This week on SUNUP is Oklahoma State University Extension grain market economist Kim Anderson. During this week’s edition, Anderson talks about the latest crop prices and more.

“There hasn’t been much movement at all in crop prices over the last couple of weeks, or maybe even over the last month,” Anderson said.

Anderson said the reason for this lack of movement has a simple answer: There is just not much going on.

“We have got the winter wheat crop, it is all planted and in relatively good condition both in the United States and around the world,” Anderson said. “We have got the corn and soybean summer crop plantings coming up, but again, moisture is relatively good around. I think the market feels like they have got a good handle on things in the U.S. and the world, and there is just not much happening.”

The Perspective Plantings report will be released from the USDA next Thursday, Anderson said, and it will contain the estimates for all summer crops, including spring wheat. It will also contain the final planting estimates for hard red winter wheat and soft red winter wheat, Anderson added.

That same day, Anderson said the USDA’s Quarterly Grain Stocks report will also be released. This report provides information on how much product is in the bin or in storage.
