Yesterday, U.S. Senator Markwayne Mullin (R-OK) returned to the Oklahoma City area to kick off a busy Easter work period. Over the next 10 days, the Senator will visit with hundreds of Oklahomans, hear their issues, answer questions, and discuss community and federal solutions. Senator Mullin began the day at Mid-America Christian University (MACU). First, the Senator meet with MACU President Rev. Phil Greenwald, Dr. Harold Kihega of the School of Science, and Athletic Director Marcus Moeller. He toured MACU’s new science labs and met with Biology and Chemistry students to hear how they’re benefiting from the university’s new STEM-based programs. He also received an update on the school’s nursing labs and MACU’s outstanding support for the veteran community.
Then, Senator Mullin met with the Greater OKC Hispanic Chamber of Commerce at Abel’s Mexican Restaurant in Warr Acres, Oklahoma. As a business owner, the Senator spoke about some of the common challenges facing job creators in the community. The Chamber members expressed concern with illegal immigration and asked questions regarding military and retention issues, energy security, and the ongoing crisis on the southern border. The Senator also took questions from local press at the conclusion of this visit.
Yesterday afternoon, Senator Mullin sat down with Warr Acres Mayor Roger Goodwin, Bethany Mayor Nikki Lloyd, and a dozen local leaders from both cities to discuss a range of issues, including pressing water and wastewater infrastructure needs, federal grant opportunities, illegal marijuana growing operations, and the border crisis. The Senator also provided an update on his work as a member of the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee to cut red tape and streamline regulatory conditions for local communities and businesses.
Senator Mullin concluded the day at the University of Central Oklahoma (UCO), the 3rd largest public four-year university in the state. The Senator visited with UCO President Todd Lamb for a brief tour of campus and discussion regarding workforce development, FAFSA, and grant funding opportunities. As a former collegiate wrestler, Senator Mullin also had the opportunity to congratulate Head Wrestling Coach Todd Steidley, who was recently named the 2024 Division II Coach of the Year, and the wrestling team for winning their second straight national title. Senator Mullin spoke with the athletes about his own wrestling career and answered questions from the students about how he started his businesses and ended up in politics
