Tough Week for Cattle Markets, but Ben Hale Expects Upward Movement Soon

Listen to Ron Hays talk with Ben Hale about the latest in the cattle markets.

On Tuesdays, Senior Farm and Ranch Broadcaster, Ron Hays, visits with Ben Hale of Western Livestock Auctions as he talks about the latest in the markets and more. Established in 1995, Western has grown into a multi-generational family-owned and operated business and stands as a symbol of tradition, excellence, and a deep-rooted passion for the cattle industry. Western Livestock Auctions is located in Oklahoma City, Woodward, and Comanche.

Following two bad crashes the past two weeks, Hale said it has been a tough week for the cattle markets.

“They finally took quite a few off of these feeders,” Hale said. “Before, they hadn’t taken that much. We had about 6500 yesterday compared to 4800 a year ago, and they sure called it cheaper yesterday.”

While it might take a bit for the markets to recover, Hale said feeder cattle are still selling well, as the better end of the feeders were only down 3.00 to 4.00 cwt. Regarding the cattle out on wheat pasture, Hale said he expects some heavy cattle to be coming to town.

“These cattle have had extremely good gains,” Hale said.

Hale said good runs are expected in Woodward and Comanche, and thanks to recent moisture, there is opportunity for people to turn some cattle out on grass.

Hale can be contacted at 940-631-2333.
