Lunch, Lucas & Learning for Wheat Growers is coming up on Tuesday, April 23rd in Kingfisher

The Oklahoma Wheat Growers Association will host a meeting for area wheat producers at noon Tuesday at Cimarron Electric Cooperative. Lunch will be provided to wheat growers courtesy of InterBank. Congressman Frank Lucas will update those in attendance on the latest efforts to pass the new Farm Bill as well as other national and international issues he is dealing with in Washington, D.C. OSU Extension Weed Specialist Dr. Liberty Galvin will share findings from the university’s research around Italian Ryegrass in Oklahoma wheat fields which will be eligible for one Oklahoma Department of Agriculture Continuing Education Credit for private or commercial applicators.


“We are excited to meet with wheat producers in the region and to provide them an opportunity to hear from Congressman Lucas and offer their input on what is needed in the next Farm Bill,” said OWGA Executive Director and former Oklahoma House Speaker Jeff Hickman. “Additionally, the chance for wheat growers to see OSU’s latest research on ryegrass invading Oklahoma wheat fields and talk with an expert like Dr. Galvin on this challenge farmers face will be very beneficial to their farming operations.”

Cimarron Electric Cooperative’s Director of Safety and Compliance Justin Glazier will provide a presentation on avoiding the dangers of farming around electrical transmission lines and offering potentially life saving information for farmers and their families and employees.

OWGA President Dennis Schoenhals of Enid will also share with attendees the value of becoming an OWGA member.
Membership in OWGA is only $50 and includes membership in the National Association of Wheat Growers. OWGA members are also eligible to purchase Blue Cross Blue Shield group health insurance plans for themselves and their employees at group rates through Triangle Insurance in Enid. Wheat growers, farmers interested in planting wheat, and any other area agriculturists are welcome to attend the meeting in the seminar room at Cimarron Electric Cooperative.
