Leader Munson Makes The Journal Record 21st Class of Oklahoma Achievers Under 40

House Democratic Leader Cyndi Munson, D-Oklahoma City, was awarded as one of The Journal Record’s Oklahoma Achievers Under 40 for 2024.

The accolade is presented to 40 Oklahomans under the age of 40 who have made an impact on Oklahoma.

“I am honored and humbled to be recognized in this year’s Achievers under 40 list from The Journal Record,” Leader Munson said. “To be honored alongside my peers – incredible, young Oklahomans – who are transforming our state for the better is not something I take lightly. This list highlights what is good about Oklahoma, and I am deeply grateful for this recognition.”

Leader Munson is a graduate of Youth Leadership Oklahoma Class III, Leadership Oklahoma City’s LOYAL Class VIII, and Leadership Oklahoma Class 31. She is a member of Rotary Club of Oklahoma City, Club 29 – one of the largest clubs in Rotary International. In 2019, she was selected to participate in the Council of State Governments Henry Toll Fellowship Program, one of the nation’s premiere leadership development programs for state government officials. She serves on the Board of Directors for the Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee, the official party committee dedicated to electing Democrats to statehouses.

Elected in September of 2015, she became the first Asian-American woman elected to the Oklahoma Legislature. In May of 2021, she was elected by her Democratic colleagues as the House Democratic Leader for the 59th Legislature and in 2023, re-elected as House Democratic Leader for the 60th Legislature. She primarily focuses on issues pertaining to children, women, working families, public education, criminal and juvenile justice reform, election and voter reform, and Alzheimer’s.

This year’s 40 honorees will be the 21st Class of The Journal Record’s Oklahoma Achievers Under 40 list. All honorees will be recognized on May 16 at the Oklahoma History Center.

“Oklahoma’s young professionals are paving the way for remarkable achievements, not only in their own careers, but for the state as a whole,” said James Bennett, editor of The Journal Record, in the article announcing the honorees. “Beyond their work, this 21st class shows their dedication to volunteerism and community engagement. We have no doubt the honorees will continue to do great things in their own career and in their communities.”
