OISA to Host “Cattlemen’s Compass” in OKC: The Oklahoma Independent Stockgrowers Association (OISA) is kicking off 2026 with a major educational event to unify independent cattle producers and inform consumers about the state of the beef industry. The event, titled “Cattlemen’s Compass,” is set for Saturday, January 10, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the StanTech Building (formerly the Democratic Headquarters) in Oklahoma City.
A Voice for the Independent Producer OISA President Andrea Hutchison joined Farm Director KC Sheperd to discuss the driving force behind the gathering. Founded in 2017, the OISA was created to provide a dedicated voice for independent cattle producers whose interests were being overshadowed by industry consolidation and unfavorable policies.
“We were losing our voice,” Hutchison explained. “A lot of the policy that was being put into place didn’t favor our industry, it didn’t favor the grassroots cattle producer… less than 2% of us raise food… it’s become apparent that we can’t be quiet.”
“Food Security is National Security.” A central theme of the event will be the critical link between domestic food production and national security—a lesson Hutchison says was starkly highlighted by empty grocery shelves during the COVID-19 pandemic. The OISA aims to bridge the gap between producers, consumers, and legislators to ensure policies support a robust U.S. food supply.
“We want them to understand what policies benefit us and what ones do not… because when a country can’t produce its own food… we’re in a bad position,” Hutchison said.
Big Speaker Lineup The “Cattlemen’s Compass” will feature a lineup of prominent advocates and industry experts known for tackling controversial topics, from the “methane lie” to checkoff dollar usage.
- Bill Bullard, CEO of R-CALF USA, will serve as the keynote speaker.
- Shad Sullivan and Jim Mundorf of Lonesome Lands will bring their popular podcast insights to the stage.
- Mindy Patterson of The Cavalry Group will address property rights and industry defense.
- Senator Casey Murdock
- Legal experts and attorneys working with the America First Policy Institute will also be present (some via Zoom).
Hutchison noted that many of these speakers have been working directly with the incoming Trump administration and agricultural officials, signaling a shift toward more aggressive advocacy for independent ranchers.

Event Details The event is described as “educational only” and “fast and furious,” designed to arm attendees with facts and legal insights rather than just social networking.
