With less than a month remaining until the May 7, 2025 federal REAL ID deadline, Service Oklahoma has issued more than 2.1 million REAL ID-compliant credentials statewide.
A REAL ID is not required to drive or for in-state identification but may be needed to board domestic flights or enter certain federal buildings starting May 7. Many Oklahomans are taking action ahead of the deadline to ensure they’re prepared. To check if you already have a REAL ID, look for a gold star in the upper right corner of your license or ID card.
Service Oklahoma reminds Oklahomans that appointments are not required to get a REAL ID in the state. Customers can walk in during standard business hours at any Service Oklahoma location. Citizens can also visit one of the 240+ licensed operators (formerly known as tag agents) across the state to apply for their REAL ID.
REAL ID by the Numbers (as of March 31)
- Total REAL ID credentials issued: 2,101,324
- Active REAL ID-compliant credentials (all types): 1,485,479
- Total active credentials (all types): 3,498,408
- Statewide compliance rate: 42.5%
What to Know Before You Go
While not all Oklahomans may need or choose to get a REAL ID, Service Oklahoma encourages citizens to keep the following in mind before their in-person visit.
- Be prepared. Use the REAL ID Checklist to confirm your documents. Most visits take less than 20 minutes once you’re with an examiner, and you’ll ensure a smoother experience by bringing the correct paperwork.
- Appointments are not required during regular business hours. Use the live wait map feature at service.ok.gov/locations to check in online at any Service Oklahoma Licensing and Exam location. Track your place in line and arrive when it’s your time to be seen.
- Plan ahead for travel. Permanent REAL IDs are typically received within 10 to 14 business days. Temporary paper IDs cannot be used for air travel.
Evening Hours Now Available
For added flexibility, REAL ID appointments are now available from 6 to 8 p.m. on Mondays and Wednesdays at select locations through the end of the year. These evening hours are available by appointment only and designed to support those with limited daytime availability.
Participating evening locations:
- Chickasha (1701 Frisco Ave.)
- Hinton (1802 N Broadway St.)
- Muskogee (1806 N York St.)
- OKC Classen (6015 N. Classen Blvd., Building 4)
- Stillwater (701 East 12th Ave.)
- Tulsa Eastgate (14002 E 21st St.)
