House Republicans Advance Legislation to End EPA Overreach on Consumer Choice of Vehicles

Congressman Tom Cole (OK-04) released the statement below following passage of H.R. 4468, the Choice in Automobile Retail Sales Act of 2023, in the U.S. House of Representatives. If signed into law, the legislation would prohibit the Administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) from finalizing, implementing or enforcing a proposed rule titled “Multi-Pollutant Emissions Standards for Model Year 2027 and Later Light-Duty and Medium-Duty Vehicles.” Cole supported the legislation.

“The EPA’s proposed rule would set emissions standards so radical it would result in at least two-thirds of all passenger vehicles sold in the United States to be electric by 2032,” said Cole. “It would do so without taking into consideration significantly higher costs for the American people and the current lack of charging infrastructure throughout the country. Bureaucrats in Washington, D.C. should not be mandating what type of vehicles Americans should own when they are fully capable of deciding what fits the needs of their families and lifestyle best.”
