Cole Acts to Impeach Secretary Mayorkas

Congressman Tom Cole (OK-04) released the following statement after voting to impeach Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas (H. Res. 863) and hold him accountable for his purposeful refusal to uphold his oath of office, the laws of the United States, and responsibility to the American people:

“The raging crisis at our southern border was calculated. Secretary Mayorkas relentlessly subverted the laws of our land and abandoned his fundamental vow to keep the homeland safe. The fallout has been an egregious breach of public trust and the empowerment of cartels, human smugglers, and drug traffickers,” said Congressman Cole. “Secretary Mayorkas has failed his constitutional duty, but I will not. Congress has the solemn obligation to impeach—and we’ve been left with no other option but to exact needed oversight and accountability.”

Last week, Congressman Cole delivered opening remarks on the resolution before the House Rules Committee, which can be read here.
