Oklahoma Lawmakers vote to Impeach Secretary Mayorkas

Congressman Tom Cole (OK-04) released the following statement after voting to impeach Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas (H. Res. 863) and hold him accountable for his purposeful refusal to uphold his oath of office, the laws of the United States, and responsibility to the American people:

“The raging crisis at our southern border was calculated. Secretary Mayorkas relentlessly subverted the laws of our land and abandoned his fundamental vow to keep the homeland safe. The fallout has been an egregious breach of public trust and the empowerment of cartels, human smugglers, and drug traffickers,” said Congressman Cole. “Secretary Mayorkas has failed his constitutional duty, but I will not. Congress has the solemn obligation to impeach—and we’ve been left with no other option but to exact needed oversight and accountability.”

Last week, Congressman Cole delivered opening remarks on the resolution before the House Rules Committee, which can be read here.

Last week, Congresswoman Bice spoke on the House Floor in favor of impeaching Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas. Now that the articles of impeachment have passed the House, the Senate must hold a formal impeachment trial.

Rep. Stephanie Bice: Thank you Mr. Speaker.

I rise today in support of the impeachment of Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas.

This is one of the most solemn and consequential actions the U.S. House of Representatives can take, and I do not take it lightly.

However, under the watch of Secretary Mayorkas, we have witnessed the degradation of our border security and the willful and consistent refusal to comply with and enforce federal immigration laws.

Today, fentanyl is the leading cause of death for those aged 18-45, terrorists on the FBI watchlist are being released into the interior of the country, and the cartels are a multi-billion dollar business.

The crisis we face today is a threat to every single American, causing our communities to be less safe, and it is a direct result of the Secretary’s actions.

A clear message must be sent to the executive branch that they no longer get to break the law without consequences.

Secretary Mayorkas must be held accountable.

Thank you and I yield back.

Congressman Josh Brecheen voted on the House floor for the second time to impeach Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas. This time the vote passed the House of Representatives.

“The situation at our border is a crisis of Secretary Mayorkas’ own making. Mayorkas has thumbed his nose at the Constitution (Article IV, Section 4) since day one and there are at least seven known statues of federal law that he is willfully ignoring. I now urge the Senate to take immediate action and convict him,” said Congressman Josh Brecheen.
