109th Oklahoma Youth Expo Preview with Executive Vice President Kass Newell

Listen to Ron Hays talk with Kass Newell about the Oklahoma Youth Expo.

As the 109th Oklahoma Youth Expo approaches, Senior Farm and Ranch Broadcaster is talking with the OYE Executive Vice President, Kass Newell, about this year’s expo, coming up on March 12 through the 22nd.

“We are really excited to be at the 2024 Oklahoma Youth Expo, all moved in,” Newell said. “There are some changes for the show this year, some schedule changes, that are going to make things a lot easier for this year, I think.”

Newell said the schedule and locations of several events this year have changed, including the gilt sale, gilt show, legislative showmanship, the ag mechanics contest, and more.

Newell said the ag mechanics contest has grown, so the show has moved the event to Saturday, March 16, so more people can attend.

The grand drive will continue to be held on the same date, Thursday, March 21st. Newell said the sale will be held the following day.

“We have continued to grow that event, so we made the schedule change so that there are maybe more people here when that event is going on,” Newell said. “We will see how people like it, and you know, if they don’t, we will move it back.”

The legislative showmanship will now be moved to Monday, March 18th, Newell said, where exhibitors have the chance to partner up with an Oklahoma legislator in a competition where the legislator will show their livestock animal in front of a judge.

“So many of them are so invested in our show, and we are so grateful for that,” Newell said.

Total show entries have grown to 31,000 entries, Newell said, up 2,000 entries from last year.

“It has continued to grow every year, which is a great problem to have,” Newell said. “We are excited to host all of the exhibitors from all across the state.”

Newell added that OYE is open to the public, and anyone is welcome to attend the event.

“There is no fee to park, no fee to get in, and we are excited to host anyone and everyone who wants to join us for what we consider the greatest ten days in March,” Newell said.
