Call for Support: Oklahoma Volunteer Fire Departments
As the fire season continues amid wildfires across Oklahoma, Oklahoma’s Volunteer Fire Departments (VFDs) are facing significant funding and supply shortages. These departments are the primary defense for rural communities, yet many operate with outdated gear and limited budgets. Here’s how to help:
Community members can support these first responders through monetary donations—which fund fuel for brush trucks, equipment maintenance, and life-saving PPE—or by donating rehab and hygiene supplies to keep firefighters healthy during active calls.
Priority Donation Items
Food and Hydration (Rehab)
- Drinks: Bottled water, Gatorade/Powerade (bottles or single-serve powder), coffee, tea, and fruit juice.
- Snacks: Beef jerky, granola/energy bars, peanut butter or cheese crackers.
- Kitchen/Paper Goods: Paper plates, napkins, utensils, cups, and canned goods.
Hygiene and Field Supplies
- Personal Care: Baby wipes, eye drops, lip balm, sunscreen, foot powder, and socks.
- Sanitation: Paper towels, Kleenex, toilet paper, and trash bags.
- Equipment: Ice, ice chests, work gloves, and cooling tents for sun protection.

More Windy days are in the forecast over the next few weeks, so these needs will stay constant. Special Thanks for Angela Angie Dorrow for pulling this list together.
