OKC West Reports Sky High Prices for Light Weight Calves as Grass Fever Arrives

OKC West in El Reno, Oklahoma

OKC West reported 2,050 head of calves on Tuesday, April 7, 2026.

Compared to last week: Steer calves over 500lbs steady to 5.00 higher, under 500lbs 25.00-30.00 higher, conservatively. Heifer calves 15.00 to 20.00 higher. The market has been confusing over the past few weeks, but today it turned outright erratic. Buyers had “got to have them” orders for fly weight cattle, while 500-600lbs were only modestly higher. Quality was plain throughout the sale. The best quality was on unweaned calves. Most of Oklahoma received a good rain last week and now grass fever has arrived.

For the yearling run on Wednesda, 4/8/26

Expecting 5,500- 2,000 Feeder Heifers @ 9:00am and 3,500 Feeder Steers @ 11:30
