Mullin Visits Cushing High School Students, Local Leaders

Yesterday afternoon, U.S. Senator Markwayne Mullin (R-OK) visited Cushing High School for a wide-ranging Q&A with students, followed by a meeting with Cushing’s local leadership. The students asked Senator Mullin about a range of issues, including his start in politics, legislative priorities, and how Washington, D.C. can achieve bipartisan compromise.

After speaking with a group of high school juniors and seniors, Senator Mullin had a productive discussion with Cushing’s local leadership, including Cushing Schools Superintendent Dr. Melissa Amon, Cushing Mayor BJ Roberson, Cushing City Manager Ryan Ochsner, Cushing Chamber of Commerce CEO Tracy Caulfield, and Cushing High School Principal Bob Coats—among others. City leadership asked Senator Mullin about the U.S. Department of Education, technology centers, economic development, and the future of the Senate filibuster.

“Visiting with the next generation was the highlight of my day,” said Senator Mullin. “Oklahoma students always ask excellent questions—and as usual, no subject was off limits. We discussed my legislative priorities for Oklahoma, economic challenges, and what it takes to become a U.S. Senator. Cushing is known as the ‘Pipeline Capital of the Word’ for good reason, and it’s exciting to see how local educators are ensuring our students are equipped for life outside the classroom.”

“I would like to thank Senator Mullin for taking the time to visit with our students,” said Dr. Melissa Amon, Superintendent of Cushing Public Schools. “We sincerely appreciate his willingness to sit down with them, thoughtfully answer their questions, listen to their perspectives, and share his own. This visit provided an excellent opportunity for Cushing students to make meaningful real-world connections.”
