Free Envu Webinar to Explore the Role Invasive Annual Grasses Play in Escalating Wildfire Risk

Wildfires continue to pose a threat to life and property across the Western U.S, and as wildfire season quickly approaches, Envu® will host a free webinar that addresses a critical but often overlooked part of proactive wildfire control: tackling invasive annual grasses. The webinar, titled, Breaking Vicious Wildfire Cycles: How Proactively Controlling Invasive Annual Grasses Can Lessen the Intensity and Speed of Wildfires in the West, will take place on May 29 at 11 a.m. CT and will feature Cara Applestein, an ecologist with the United States Geological Survey, and John Watson, wildlife habitat specialist with the Laramie County Conservation District. Ranchers, landowners and government officials can register for the webinar here

“Invasive annual grasses now dominate more than 120 million acres of western rangelands and are a primary driver of faster and more frequent wildfires. Each year, public entities and private citizens grapple with wildfire suppression and recovery costs,” said Derek Sebastian, Envu vegetation management senior technical service manager. “With this webinar, ranchers, landowners and government officials have an opportunity to get a greater understanding of how exactly invasive annual grasses can serve as the fine fuels needed for wildfires to spread and how shifting to proactive control of those invasive grasses can improve habitat quality and save time and money on reactive suppression.”

Applestein and Watson will each present research relating to how invasive annual grasses contribute to wildfires and how different methods of control of those invasive grasses could improve outcomes in the future.

Envu Range & Pasture offers a broad range of products and services that help ranchers effectively tackle invasive species, including Rejuvra® and Marshal™ Imazapic herbicides. Rejuvra shows consistent control of invasive annual grasses like cheatgrass for up to four years in one application, with some applications demonstrating efficacy beyond five years. When paired with Rejuvra, Marshal Imazapic delivers a stronger start in year one and lasting control for years to come, reducing the need for annual applications.

Ranchers, government officials and members of the media are encouraged to register for the webinar here
