The Oklahoma Conservation Commission (OCC) launches the second program year of the Restoring Natural Ecology in Wetlands (ReNEW) program. This initiative provides technical and financial support for a range of wetland restoration practices to enhance environmental benefits.
Wetlands in Oklahoma provide essential services, including improved water quality, reduced flooding, aquifer recharge, and recreational opportunities. The program, led by the OCC Wetlands team, focuses on increasing the quantity, quality, and biological diversity of wetlands in Oklahoma. It combines technical assistance and financial incentives to encourage Oklahoma’s landowners to adopt wetland restoration practices. ReNEW offers 80% reimbursement of total project cost for each approved applicant who implements wetland creation, restoration, or enhancement practices.
The program’s application window is now open and will remain open through September 30, 2026. Interested landowners can apply through the Wetlands website or through their local conservation district. Applicants must be a district cooperator with an approved cooperator agreement and are expected to implement and maintain the conservation practice(s) to ensure the project’s long-term success
The Commission Wetlands Team will review and rank applications using a preset ranking tool. The team will notify approved applicants and their conservation district by November 2, 2026. This initiative represents a significant step in the ongoing effort to conserve and restore Oklahoma’s wetlands.
