Today, the United Food and Commercial Workers Local 2 announced the ratification of a five-year collective bargaining agreement at the National Beef plant in Dodge City, Kansas, which will bring significant wage increases, bonuses, and additional time off to over 2,500 workers.
“We’re very pleased with the provisions that were improved in favor of the members through the ratification of this contract,” said Jesus Carlos Rivera Cervantes, a worker at National Beef. “The wage increases, bonuses, and improvements to healthcare and time off mean a lot to all of us, and having a union made it all possible. We’re happy, excited, and all smiles! Despite all of the obstacles, workers were thanking the negotiating committee for what they were able to accomplish.”
“We are proud to say that we have ratified one of the best contracts in the beef processing industry,” said UFCW Local 2 President Martin Rosas. “This achievement did not happen by chance. It is the result of our membership’s unity, organization, and solidarity. When workers stand united and fight together, we can secure better wages, better benefits, and a better quality of life for our families, no matter the headwinds facing the beef industry.
