Ag Groups Thankful for $8 Billion in Harvest Fuel Relief for Farmers

American Farm Bureau Federation President Zippy Duvall commented today on President Trump’s announcement to provide $8 billion in relief for farmers facing higher diesel prices this fall. “Farmers and ranchers welcome the administration’s announcement of $8 billion in relief through the Harvest Fuel Relief program to help farmers struggling with high diesel prices. We appreciate President Trump and Secretary Rollins recognizing that higher diesel prices have squeezed farmers’ bottom lines. By building on the Farmer Bridge Assistance program, USDA will be able to quickly deliver this relief to farm country. “We look forward to working with the president and USDA to ensure specialty crop growers, livestock producers, fishermen and others get the support they need so they can continue growing the food America’s families rely on. We also value the president’s continued support for Congress passing a modernized farm bill, allowing year-round E15 and addressing agriculture’s labor needs.”

National Sorghum Producers welcomes President Donald Trump’s announcement of $8 billion in assistance through USDA’s Harvest Fuel Relief program to help farmers manage higher fuel and input costs. NSP thanks President Trump, U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Brooke Rollins and U.S. Sen. Roger Marshall for their leadership in advancing this support during harvest. “Sorghum farmers are facing tight margins, and higher diesel costs put even more pressure on our ability to bring a crop to market,” said NSP Chairman Garrett Love, a sorghum farmer from Montezuma, Kansas. “We thank President Trump and Secretary Rollins for responding to those challenges, and Sen. Marshall for championing relief and keeping farmers’ needs front and center. This assistance will provide welcome support as growers finish harvest and prepare for the next growing season.” Administered by USDA’s Farm Service Agency, the program will provide one-time payments to help cover a portion of modeled losses for the 2026 crop year. USDA plans to announce commodity-specific payment rates for Title I crops in November. NSP looks forward to working with USDA on timely implementation and will share payment rates and application information with sorghum growers as details become available.

The National Cotton Council (NCC) appreciates the Trump Administration and the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) announcement to provide additional assistance to agricultural producers through the Harvest Fuel Relief program. “The NCC commends Secretary Rollins and the USDA for taking steps to provide timely assistance to producers as they navigate ongoing economic challenges,” said NCC Chairman Nathan Reed. “This assistance will provide important support to farm families as they complete the 2026 harvest and make plans for the coming crop year. While this assistance will help address near-term challenges, the NCC urges Congress to follow through with the earlier commitment of additional economic support. In addition, the cotton industry remains committed to pursuing the bipartisan Buying American Cotton Act, with over 100 cosponsors, that will strengthen the long-term competitiveness and profitability of the U.S. cotton industry.

National Farmers Union (NFU) released the following statement from President Rob Larew in response to USDA’s announcement of an $8 billion Harvest Fuel Relief program: “This is the second round of emergency aid this year to address losses that were largely foreseeable. While this assistance will be helpful for some farmers as they manage a costly harvest, trade disruptions and rising fuel costs tied to conflict abroad have put family farmers in a difficult position, and one-time payments can’t provide the stability they need to plan for the future. “We also have questions about how this program will serve specialty crop growers, who have been asked to submit their own cost data with no clarity yet on whether or how they’ll be covered. “The need for repeated emergency aid is a clear sign that the farm safety net is failing family farmers. We need to provide long-term certainty and investment in diversifying our fuel sources with renewable options, not a cycle of ad hoc relief. That’s why Congress must commit to passing a strong farm bill that gives family farmers the stable footing they need.”

Today, House Agriculture Committee Ranking Member Angie Craig(MN-02) released the following statement regarding the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s plan to tap the Credit Commodity Corporation to address rising costs caused by President Trump’s war with Iran and global tariff regime. “The fastest way for the president to provide farmers with meaningful and durable relief is to end his war with Iran and stop picking fights with our closest trading partners. Continuing these failed policies will lead right back to where we are next year. This latest bailout is another band-aid on a gaping wound, ignoring the root causes of the cost-of-living crisis that is straining the household budgets of farmers and millions of other hardworking Americans.”

President Donald Trump announced on Monday night that the U.S. Department of Agriculture will create the Harvest Fuel Relief program. The $8 billion program will be designed to provide farmers with assistance to help mitigate the high cost of inputs, including diesel fuel. In response to the announcement, National Corn Growers Association President Matt Frostic released the following statement. “We appreciate the administration recognizing how the high cost of inputs, especially diesel fuel prices during harvest time, is adding to the economic pain of America’s farmers. Corn growers are eager to learn more details about the Harvest Fuel Relief program design and implementation for the 2026 crop year.   “As we work to tackle the many economic challenges facing growers and rural communities, we urge Washington to focus on durable, bipartisan, long-term solutions that will result in lasting improvements to the farm and national economy. Such solutions include passing legislation that will allow for the year-round sale of E15, renewing the U.S.-Mexico-Canada Agreement, taking actions to improve access to new markets for U.S. farmers, like maritime and sustainable aviation fuel, and passing a robust farm bill. We will continue to work with Congress and the administration to get these priorities over the finish line this year.” The Harvest Fuel Relief program will be administered by the Farm Service Agency. USDA has indicated that commodity specific payment rates will be released in November and pre-filled applications will be available in January 2027.

The National Association of Wheat Growers (NAWG) welcomes the Trump Administration’s announcement of $8 billion in assistance for American farmers through the Harvest Fuel Relief Program. “NAWG thanks President Trump and Secretary Rollins for recognizing the financial pressures facing wheat growers and providing assistance to help offset rising fuel costs,” said NAWG CEO Sam Kieffer. “While this relief is welcome, high fuel prices and other input costs continue to squeeze farm margins and threaten the viability of family farms. NAWG remains ready to roll up our sleeves and work with the Administration and Congress to address the farm input cost crisis and advance long-term solutions that help keep American wheat growers competitive.”
