Bob Rodenberger says Livestock Market is Tremendous Right Now

Listen to KC Sheperd Visit with Bob Rodenberger at Stockmans about this week in the cattle market.

The cattle market started off strong on Monday, with roughly 17,500 being sold at Oklahoma National Stockyards. Bob Rodenberger at Stockman’s said the morning started well, and ended well, “Good demand, a tremendous run of quality cattle, cattle stayed good all day, and we had good demand on them weighing 300-900 pounds.”

Rodenberger said if you’ve been waiting on a good market, the market is here. Cow numbers are still pretty substantial, but a little smaller than last week, “Still nothing but killing cows. Cull cows. No young cows are coming to town.” He says the market is just tremendous right now: “These lightweight cattle, there’s a lot of demand if you go out and look at your August, September and October feeder board. There’s a lot of money to be locked up to these folks that have the ability to carry these cattle forward either onto wheat or onto grass. There’s some good profit potential.”

Looking to next week, he expects another good week, “We know down the road we are going to sell less cattle, and that’s going to maintain this fat market. The Feed yards have to keep inventory; they’ve got a hotel and a smorgasbord lunch. They’ve gotta keep the hotel full, and they’ve gotta feed the feed.”
