Nineteen swine industry professionals from across the nation have been accepted into the 2023 Pork Leadership Institute (PLI).
The year-long training experience jointly hosted by the National Pork Producers Council (NPPC) and the National Pork Board (NPB) consists of multiple learning sessions, including two trips to Washington, D.C., and an international experience focused on exports.
Selected participants are educated on the legislative and regulatory processes, the importance of international trade, the roles of the national pork organizations and their state pork associations, and the issues facing producers.
These producers are also trained to be spokespeople for the pork industry and grassroots activists able to disseminate proactive, targeted messages about agriculture.
The Oklahoma Pork Council is proud to have one of our members chosen for this impressive program in 2023.
Alina Porta of Mooreland serves as a production manager for The HANOR Company. In this role, Porta oversees more than 10,000 sows and 45 employees.
Porta has dedicated the past 15 years of her career to the pork industry, where she is passionate about animal well-being and investing in employees.
“I am excited and grateful to be selected into the PLI training program,” Porta said when her acceptance was announced.
“This means a lot to me because the pork industry has been instrumental in my personal development. I am looking forward to being part of this experience.”
While working full-time, Porta is also currently pursuing her master’s of agribusiness from Kansas State University.
Porta and her husband are working to raise their two children with exposure to animals, especially pigs. In their spare time, the Porta family operates a small coffee roasting business.
HANOR executive and Oklahoma Pork Council board member Tom Layne shared congratulations on behalf of their organization.
“Since joining The HANOR Company in 2017, Alina has been integral to our Production Management Team in Mooreland, Oklahoma,” Layne said.
“We are excited about her professional growth through Pork Leadership Institute. HANOR is grateful for this program and has benefited from our participation in PLI.”
