Conserving Pollinators in Oklahoma’s Gardens, Farms and Ranches

Natural Resource Conservation Service (NRCS) and Farm Service Agency (FSA) will partner together for a free conservation workshop on Wednesday, April 5, 2023.

The “Conserving Pollinators in Oklahoma’s Gardens, Farms and Ranches” workshop will meet in person this year. Join the agencies to discuss the importance of the basics of soil fertility, horticulture, grazing and forage options for livestock, USDA program updates and NRCS Inflation Reduction Act (IRA).

Speakers for this event are Brent Pannell, NRCS Assistant State Conservationist; Mike Trammell, Pottawatomie County Ag Educator and Regional Agronomist; Laura Payne, Payne County, OSU Extension; Ray Moranz, Ph.D. and Carol Crouch, Ph.D., NRCS.

Partners that will provide updates on their programs include Nick Jones, NRCS; Mattie Alewine, FSA; Troy Marshall, National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS), and Creek, Konawa, Lincoln, Okfuskee, and Shawnee districts.

There will be a special presentation by the Citizen Potawatomi Nation (CPN) Eagle Aviary with a live eagle and a virtual tour of the Eagle Aviary. They will also share their rescue process and the cultural significance of Eagle feathers.   

When: Wednesday, April 5, 2023, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Lunch will be provided by the Oklahoma Tribal Conservation Advisory Council (OTCAC).

Location: Citizen Potawatomi Nation (CPN) Reunion Hall North, at 1702 Gordon Cooper, in Shawnee, Oklahoma. The Reunion Hall is across the street from the CPN golf course and CPN Cultural Center.

NRCS assists producers with implementing conservation concerns and addressing resource concerns. FSA administers a wide variety of programs covering commodity crops, livestock, conservation, and disaster programs with varying degrees of requirements for participation. Landowners and operators are encouraged to utilize workshops and webinars to learn more about the 2018 Farm Bill Programs and to ask questions regarding USDA programs.
