As Oklahoma Wheat Harvest Continues, Crop Conditions Show Improvements

Crop development: 82 percent of winter wheat was headed nationwide as of Sunday, up 10 percentage points from the previous week and still 1 point behind than the five-year average.

Four percent of the crop was harvested as of Sunday, slightly behind last year’s 5 percent and equal to the five-year average.

Nationwide, winter wheat was rated 36 percent good to excellent, up 2 percentage points from 34 percent the previous week and ahead of last year’s rating at this time of 30 percent good to excellent.

OKLAHOMA:

Winter wheat harvested reached 15 percent, up 1 point from the previous year and up 7 points from normal. Wheat conditions rated 36 percent good to excellent, 37 percent fair and 26 percent poor to very poor. Last week’s conditions rated were 30 percent good to excellent, 43 percent fair and 27 percent poor to very poor.

Corn planted reached 86 percent, up 4 points from the previous year and up 2 points from normal. Corn emerged reached 64 percent, down 5 points from the previous year and down 6 points from normal. Last week’s conditions rated  71 percent good to excellent, 26 percent fair and 3 percent poor to very poor.

Sorghum planted reached 32 percent, unchanged from the previous year but down 4 points from normal.

Soybeans planted reached 40 percent, down 1 point from the previous year and down 9 points from normal. Soybeans emerged reached 18 percent, down 1 point from the previous year.

Peanuts planted reached 50 percent, up 7 points from the previous year but down 1 point from normal.

Cotton planted reached 46 percent, down 5 points from the previous year but up 3 points from normal.

Hay: The first cutting of alfalfa hay reached 43 percent, unchanged from the previous year but down 12 points from normal. The first cutting of other hay reached 36 percent, unchanged from the previous year but down 8 points from normal.

Livestock conditions rated 59 percent good to excellent, 29 percent fair and 13 percent poor to very poor.

Pasture and range conditions rated 53 percent good to excellent, 35 percent fair and 12 percent poor to very poor. Last week’s conditions rated 45 percent good to excellent, 39 percent fair and 16 percent poor to very poor.

KANSAS:

Winter wheat headed was 93 percent, behind 98 percent last year, and near 96 percent for the five-year average. Winter wheat conditions rated 12 percent good to excellent, 23 percent fair and 35 percent poor to very poor. Last week’s conditions rated 10 percent good to excellent, 21 percent fair and 69 percent poor to very poor. 

Corn planted was 91 percent, near 92 percent last year, and equal to average. Emerged was 75 percent, equal to last year, and near 76 percent average. Corn conditions rated 51 percent good to excellent, 39 percent fair and 10 percent poor to very poor.

Soybeans planted was 80 percent, ahead of 63 percent last year and 62 percent average. Emerged was 62 percent, ahead of 44 percent last year and 45 percent average. Soybean conditions rated 57 percent good to excellent, 37 percent fair and 6 percent poor to very poor.

Sorghum planted was 31 percent, behind 39 percent last year, and near 32 percent average.

Pasture and range conditions rated 18 percent good to excellent, 37 percent fair and 45 percent poor to very poor. Last week’s conditions rated 15 percent good to excellent, 34 percent fair and 51 percent poor to very poor. 

TEXAS:

Winter wheat headed harvested reached 29 percent, down 5 percentage points from the previous year and down 3 points from the average. Winter wheat conditions rated 29 percent good to excellent, 34 percent fair and 37 percent poor to very poor. Last week’s conditions rated 23 percent good to excellent, 37 percent fair and 40 percent poor to very poor. 

Corn planted reached 94 percent, down 3 percentage points from the previous year and the average. Corn emerged reached 87 percent, down 6 points from the previous year and down 4 from the average. Corn conditions rated 73 percent good to excellent, 23 percent fair and 4 percent poor to very poor. Last week’s conditions rated  75 percent good to excellent, 21 percent fair, and 4 percent poor to very poor.

Sorghum planted reached 85 percent, even with the previous year and down 3 points from the average. Sorghum headed reached 39 percent, up 1 point from the previous year and down one from the average. Sorghum conditions rated 55 percent good to excellent, 41 percent fair and 4 percent poor to very poor.

Soybeans planted reached 69 percent, down 2 percentage points from the previous year and down 9 from the average. Soybeans emerged reached 45 percent, down 18 percent from the previous year and down 20 from the average. Soybean conditions rated 48 percent good to excellent, 44 percent fair, and 8 percent poor to very poor.

Range and pasture conditions rated 41 percent good to excellent, 32 percent fair, and 26 percent poor to very poor. Last week’s conditions rated 39 percent good to excellent, 35 percent fair, and 27 percent poor to very poor.
