The 59th World Livestock Auctioneer Championship (WLAC) is set to take place on Saturday, June 10 in conjunction with the Livestock Marketing Association’s (LMA) Annual Convention June 7-10, 2023, in Punta Gorda and Arcadia, Fla.
A total of 31 semi-finalist auctioneers will compete in the championship event. The auctioneering contest will begin with the interview portion of the competition where each WLAC semi-finalist must clearly establish and demonstrate their knowledge of the livestock marketing industry. The second part of the competition will take place during a live sale at Arcadia Stockyard in Arcadia, Fla., where contestants will sell cattle to actual bidders in the seats.
One of those semi finalists is from Waukomis, Oklahoma. Dakota Davis is no stranger to the contest, as he tells Senior Farm and Ranch Broadcaster Ron Hays that he first competed in 2019 – ended up second to dead last. In 2021- he made the national semis again- as well as becoming a finalist and placed fifth nationally that year.
He did not qualify in 2022 but here in 2023- went to the West Virginia qualifier and is back as a national semifinalist at the contest this weekend.
Dakota is regularly selling cattle at the Enid Livestock Market on Thursdays.
