Congressman Tom Cole (OK-04) released the following statement following House passage of H.J. Res 44, a resolution arising under the Congressional Review Act to disapprove of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives’ (ATF) rule that forces millions of law-abiding gun owners, many of them disabled veterans, to dispose of or register their firearms with stabilizing braces.
“The government should protect, rather than restrict Americans’ Constitutional rights, and that includes those rights under the Second Amendment,” said Cole. “Stabilizing pistol braces were designed to help disabled veterans shoot firearms that they would otherwise be unable to hold, stabilize or aim. Even the Obama-era ATF recognized the legitimate function of these devices. The Biden Administration’s reversal of a decade of precedent is a clear violation of the Second Amendment and the constitutionally protected rights of law-abiding and responsible gun owning Americans. I was proud to join every member of the Oklahoma delegation in cosponsoring this important resolution and applaud its passage in the House.”
