US Wheat Associates Harvest Report for June 23, 2023

Record-breaking high temperatures were set in Texas last week, accelerating harvest and crop maturity; the first 28 HRW samples from Texas and Oklahoma have arrived at the lab for testing. The SRW harvest is 32% complete and preliminary data is included in this week’s report. Portions of the HRS region could use some precipitation, which is reflected in USDA crop condition ratings. The PNW SW crop would also benefit from rain. The northern durum crop is 98% emerged and is in good condition so far.

Beating the beating rains. This scene from the Kansas 2023 wheat harvest was captured by Kendal Peterson of Assaria, Kansas. Reports indicated there were many harvest delays across the state due to rain. “For some, however, rains arrived just in time to fill grain heads, resulting in better-than-expected final results,” Kansas Wheat reported.
Making Progress in Oklahoma. This scene from Oklahoma shows a farmer “getting while the getting is good (and dry).” The Oklahoma Wheat Commission estimated the harvest to be 45% complete as of June 21.
A sunny day in Wheat Country. This early-harvest scene is courtesy of Kansas’ Greg Peterson. According to USDA, the Kansas harvest was nearing 10% complete as of June 22. “Some decent test weights,” were being reported.
Moving closer to the end. Texas Wheat reported that harvest in that state was nearing 70% complete this week. This evening unloading scene was taken in Waxahachie.
Rising sun? Setting sun? Either way, harvest is far from done! This Central Oklahoma harvest scene was captured by Daniel Crossley of Okarche.
