Crop Conditions in Oklahoma Fall in This Week’s Crop Progress Report- Cotton Down 15 Percent

U.S. corn and soybean conditions both fell last week, according to USDA NASS’ weekly Crop Progress report released Monday.

U.S. CROP PROGRESS:

Corn silking for the U.S. reached 84 percent, up 7 percentage points from the previous year and up 2 points from the five-year average. Corn dough reached 29 percent, up 5 points from the previous year and even with the average. Corn conditions rated 55 percent good to excellent, 30 percent fair and 15 percent poor to very poor. Last week’s conditions rated 57 percent good to excellent, 30 percent fair and 13 percent poor to very poor. 

Soybeans blooming reached 83 percent, up 6 percentage points from the previous year and up 5 from the average. Soybeans setting pods reached 50 percent, up 9 percentage points from the previous year and up 3 from the average. Soybean conditions rated 52 percent good to excellent, 33 percent fair and 15 percent poor to very poor. Last week’s conditions rated 54 percent good to excellent, 32 percent fair and 14 percent poor to very poor.

Cotton squaring reached 86 percent, down 2 percentage points from the previous year and down 1 point from the average. Cotton setting bolls reached 47 percent, down 10 points from the previous year and down 3 from the average. Cotton conditions rated 41 percent good to excellent, 28 percent fair and 31 percent poor to very poor. Last week’s conditions rated 46 percent good to excellent, 30 percent fair, and 24 percent poor to very poor.

OKLAHOMA:

Corn silking reached 83 percent, up 1 point from the previous year and up 5 points from normal. Corn dough reached 42 percent, up 20 points from the previous year and up 16 points from normal. Corn conditions rated 77 percent good to excellent, 16 percent fair and 7 percent poor to very poor. Last week’s conditions rated 80 percent good to excellent, 16 percent fair and 4 percent poor to very poor. 

Sorghum headed reached 26 percent, down 15 points from the previous year and down 10 points from normal. Sorghum coloring reached 8 percent, down 2 points from the previous year and down 3 points from normal. Sorghum conditions rated 70 percent good to excellent, 23 percent fair and 7 percent poor to very poor. Last week’s conditions rated 77 percent good to excellent, 14 percent fair and 9 percent poor to very poor. 

Soybeans emerged reached 95 percent, up 4 points from the previous week. Soybeans blooming reached 55 percent, up 13 points from the previous year and up 15 points from normal. Soybeans setting pods reached 7 percent, down 3 points from the previous year. Soybean conditions rated 64 percent good to excellent, 31 percent fair and 5 percent poor to very poor. Last week’s conditions rated 77 percent good to excellent, 19 percent fair and 4 percent poor to very poor. 

Peanuts pegging reached 57 percent, down 2 points from the previous year but unchanged from normal. Peanut conditions rated 98 percent good to excellent, and 2 percent fair. Last week’s conditions rated the same.

Cotton squaring reached 84 percent, up 1 point from the previous year and up 5 points from normal. Cotton setting bolls reached 55 percent, up 26 points from the previous year and up 25 points from normal. Cotton conditions rated 57 percent good to excellent, 20 percent fair, and 23 percent poor to very poor. Last week’s conditions rated 72 percent good to excellent, 23 percent fair, and 5 percent poor to very poor. 

Hay: The second cutting of alfalfa hay reached 95 percent, up 9 points from the previous week. The third cutting of alfalfa hay reached 53 percent, down 5 points from the previous year and down 6 points from normal. The second cutting of other hay reached 40 percent, down 9 points from the previous year and down 3 points from normal.

Livestock conditions rated 65 percent good to excellent, 24 percent fair and 11 percent poor to very poor. Last week’s conditions rated 73 percent good to excellent, 21 percent fair and 6 percent poor to very poor. 

Pasture and range conditions rated 58 percent good to excellent, 27 percent fair and 15 percent poor to very poor. Last week’s conditions rated 66 percent good to excellent, 26 percent fair and 8 percent poor to very poor. 

KANSAS:

Winter wheat harvested was 95 percent, behind 100 percent last year, and near 99 percent for the five-year average.

Corn silking was 82 percent, ahead of 72 percent last year, and equal to the average. Dough was 39 percent, ahead of 28 percent last year, and equal to average. Corn conditions rated 50 percent good to excellent, 32 percent fair and 18 percent poor to very poor. Last week’s conditions rated 58 percent good to excellent, 32 percent fair and 10 percent poor to very poor. 

Soybeans blooming was 76 percent, ahead of 63 percent last year and 67 percent average. Setting pods was 38 percent, ahead of 23 percent last year, and near 34 percent average. Soybean conditions rated 49 percent good to excellent, 31 percent fair and 20 percent poor to very poor. Last week’s conditions rated 58 percent good to excellent, 31 percent fair and 11 percent poor to very poor. 

Sorghum headed was 27 percent, ahead of 20 percent last year, but near 30 percent average. Coloring was 7 percent, ahead of 1 percent last year and 2 percent average. Sorghum conditions rated 54 percent good to excellent, 33 percent fair and 13 percent poor to very poor. Last week’s conditions rated 52 percent good to excellent, 38 percent fair and 10 percent poor to very poor. 

Cotton squaring was 90 percent, behind 98 percent last year, but near 86 percent average. Setting bolls was 53 percent, behind 58 percent last year, but well ahead of 31 percent average. Cotton conditions rated 61 percent good to excellent, 34 percent fair and 5 percent poor to very poor. Last week’s conditions rated 64 percent good to excellent, 29 percent fair and 7 percent poor to very poor. 

Pasture and range conditions rated 32 percent good to excellent, 38 percent fair and 30 percent poor to very poor. Last week’s conditions rated 30 percent good to excellent, 41 percent fair and 29 percent poor to very poor. 

TEXAS:

Corn silked reached 89 percent, even with the previous year but down 2 points from the average. Corn dough reached 73 percent, up 4 points from the previous year and up 2 from the average. Corn conditions rated 61 percent good to excellent, 29 percent fair and 10 percent poor to very poor. Last week’s conditions rated 70 percent good to excellent, 25 percent fair and 5 percent poor to very poor. 

Cotton squaring reached 80 percent, down 4 percentage points from the previous year and the average. Cotton setting bolls reached 35 percent, down 15 points from the previous year and down 6 from the average. Cotton conditions rated 17 percent good to excellent, 33 percent fair and 50 percent poor to very poor. Last week’s conditions rated 24 percent good to excellent, 36 percent fair and 40 percent poor to very poor. 

Sorghum headed reached 85 percent, down 1 percentage point from the previous year and up 2 points from the average. Sorghum coloring reached 67 percent, up 1 point from the previous year and down 1 point from the average. Sorghum conditions rated 55 percent good to excellent, 29 percent fair and 16 percent poor to very poor. Last week’s conditions rated 64 percent good to excellent, 22 percent fair and 14 percent poor to very poor. 

Peanuts pegging reached 60 percent, up 5 points from the previous year and the average. Peanut conditions rated 43 percent good to excellent, 48 percent fair and 9 percent poor to very poor. Last week’s conditions rated 45 percent good to excellent, 50 percent fair and 5 percent poor to very poor. 

Range and pasture conditions rated 16 percent good to excellent, 26 percent fair and 58 percent poor to very poor. Range and pasture conditions rated  23 percent good to excellent, 29 percent fair and 48 percent poor to very poor.
