Cole Receives 2023 National Distinguished Advocacy Award from American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network

Congressman Tom Cole (OK-04), Vice Chairman of the House Appropriations Committee, received the 2023 National Distinguished Advocacy Award from the American Cancer Society Action Network (ACS CAN) for his leadership in the fight against cancer. Cole was selected for the award particularly for his dedication to increasing cancer and pediatric cancer research funding, leading the National Institutes of Health (NIH) to a funding increase of 49 percent since 2015, and introduction of the Strengthen The Pediatric Research Initiative Act.

“I am deeply honored to receive this distinguished award from the American Cancer Society,” said Cole. “This tragic and deadly disease affects every American family in some shape or form. However, through biomedical research, we can improve patients’ access to care, prevention and screening programs, uncover new treatments and hopefully find a cure one day to save lives. Indeed, the next breakthrough is always right around the corner, and I will continue to champion this cause and work with my colleagues in Congress, organizations such as the American Cancer Society and others to ensure the fight against cancer continues.”
