Bice Supports Two-Step Stopgap Spending Bill

Today, the U.S. House of Representatives voted on a two-step stopgap funding bill which seeks to avert a government shutdown. In step one, four appropriations bills: Military Construction-Veterans Affairs, Transportation-Housing-Urban Development, Agriculture, and Energy and Water are extended until January 19th. In step two, the remaining eight appropriations bills are extended until February 2nd. This legislation would responsibly avert a government shutdown while also blocking the potential for a year-end Omnibus.

Congresswoman Bice issued the following statement:“A two-step stopgap funding bill gives the House time to continue the appropriations process, which focuses on responsible cuts, clawbacks, and conservative priorities, and prevents a year-end Omnibus. While this is an imperfect method, it is important that we keep the government open and prevent a shutdown, where our troops, border patrol agents, and other federal employees throughout Oklahoma would be forced to go without pay. Over the next few weeks, it is imperative that we work to reduce the national debt which now exceeds $33.5 trillion dollars and get our fiscal house in order. The only way that we can enhance the quality of life for everyday Oklahomans is to reduce spending, lower inflation, and safeguard our nation by closing the border.”
