Oklahoma Good to Excellent Winter Wheat Conditions Drop 5 Percent This Week

According to the latest Oklahoma Crop Progress and Condition Report released on March 4, 2024, winter wheat conditions rated 65 percent good to excellent, 27 percent fair and 8 percent poor to very poor. Last week’s conditions rated 70 percent good to excellent, 24 percent fair, and 6 percent poor to very poor.

Pasture and range conditions rated 31 percent good to excellent, 44 percent fair and 25 percent poor to very poor. Last week’s conditions rated 29 percent good to excellent, 51 percent fair, and 20 percent poor to very poor.

Livestock conditions in Oklahoma rated 60 percent good to excellent, 34 percent fair and 6 percent poor to very poor. Last week’s conditions rated 67 percent good to excellent, 30 percent fair, and 3 percent poor to very poor.

Rainfall totals in Oklahoma averaged 0.12 inches. According to the February 27th US Drought Monitor Report, drought conditions were rated 31 percent abnormally dry to exceptional drought, down 46 points from last year. Additionally, 3 percent of the state was in the moderate drought to exceptional drought categories, down 64 points from the previous year. Statewide, temperatures averaged in the lower to mid 50’s. Topsoil moisture and subsoil moisture conditions were rated adequate to short. There were 6.4 days suitable for fieldwork.

Small Grains: Winter wheat grazed reached 57 percent, down 6 points from the previous year. Rye grazed reached 46 percent, up 6 points from the previous year. Oats grazed reached 8 percent, down 30 points from the previous year.
