Oklahoma’s Good to Excellent Winter Wheat Conditions Fall Slightly This Week

According to the latest Oklahoma Crop Progress and Condition Report released on March 18, 2024, winter wheat jointing reached 14 percent, down 5 points from the previous year and down 4 points from normal. Winter wheat conditions rated 61 percent good to excellent, 32 percent fair and 7 percent poor to very poor. Last week’s conditions rated 65 percent good to excellent, 28 percent fair and 7 percent poor to very poor. 

Pasture and range conditions rated 38 percent good to excellent, 38 percent fair and 24 percent poor to very poor. Last week’s conditions rated 36 percent good to excellent, 40 percent fair, and 24 percent poor to very poor. 

Livestock conditions rated 55 percent good to excellent, 39 percent fair and 6 percent poor to very poor. Last week’s conditions rated 58 percent good to excellent, 34 percent fair, and 8 percent poor to very poor. 

In Kansas:

Winter wheat conditions rated 55 percent good to excellent, 33 percent fair and 12 percent poor to very poor. Last week’s conditions rated 53 percent good to excellent, 34 percent fair, and 13 percent poor to very poor. 

In Texas:

Winter wheat headed reached 13 percent, down 9 percentage points from the previous year and down 7 points from the five-year average. Winter wheat conditions rated 46 percent good to excellent, 35 percent fair and 19 percent poor to very poor. Last week’s conditions rated 44 percent good to excellent, 30 percent fair, and 26 percent poor to very poor.

Corn planted reached 34 percent, down 3 percentage points from the previous year and up one point from the five year average.

Sorghum planted reached 27 percent, up one percentage point from the previous year and up 2 points from the five-year average.

Range and pasture conditions rated 14 percent good to excellent, 35 percent fair and 51 percent poor to very poor. Last week’s conditions rated 12 percent good to excellent, 33 percent fair, and 55 percent poor to very poor.
