During the month of April, the Radio Oklahoma Ag Network and Oklahoma Farm Report are spotlighting the 18 Area Stars of Oklahoma FFA, who are among the highest achievers in the organization.
The stars come from the five areas in four categories- Star in Ag Placement, Star in Agriscience, Star in Agribusiness, and Star in Agricultural Production.
This week, we spotlight the five area stars in Agricultural Placement in 2024.
One Star Finalist featured in the coming days from each of the categories will be named the State Star Award Winner during the 98th Oklahoma State FFA Convention, which will take place on May 7th and 8th in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
This week, our coverage of the 2024 Oklahoma FFA Star Award Finalists continues with Ag Placement competitor Halle Watson of the Stigler FFA chapter representing the Southeast Area.
For Watson’s project, she trains barrel horses.
“I specialize in barrel racing and compete in barrel racing,” Watson said.
When talking about aspects that make a good barrel horse, Waston said a horse must be able to listen and work hard for whoever is riding it. Regarding the future of her project, Watson said she plans to continue training barrel horses in the future.
“I plan to go to the University of Arkansas-Fort Smith and get my dental hygiene degree, and then I plan to still train horses on the side,” Watson said.
Watson said she is thankful for the FFA because it gave her many opportunities to learn a variety of important skills that helped to ensure success in a future career, such as public speaking.
