On Tuesdays, Senior Farm and Ranch Broadcaster, Ron Hays, visits with Ben Hale of Western Livestock Auctions as he talks about the latest in the markets and more. Established in 1995, Western has grown into a multi-generational family-owned and operated business and stands as a symbol of tradition, excellence, and a deep-rooted passion for the cattle industry. Western Livestock Auctions is located in Oklahoma City, Woodward, and Comanche.
Hale said runs this week were close to one week ago, just slightly lower. Hale also noted a loss of interest on grazing cattle. Runs this week are down compared to one year ago.
“That deal a week ago on Monday was so snappy and so good,” Hale said. “I can see it pulling back a little bit since Friday, and yesterday had a little bit of pullback on the board.”
The markets are still seeing some impacts from HPAI (Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza), Hale added.
Regarding the yearling market, Rodenberger said cattle weighing around 700 and 800 pounds are selling exceptionally well.
“If you get down there around that tight seven-weight if they happen to be a little green, those things sure bring a lot to graze,” Rodenberger said.
Looking into the next few months, Rodenberger said many people are not forced to sell cattle at the moment, so numbers selling can possibly be maintained.
