Associate Farm Editor Reagan Calk is visiting with Bob Rodenberger, a Partner with Stockman Oklahoma Livestock, as he gives the latest on the cattle markets. Overall, Bob said cattle producers around the state are pleased with the recent rainfall, which has filled up ponds. He also noted good market prices.
“We started out with average runs throughout the state, and had good rain around,” Rodenberger said.
The market started out steady for the week, Rodenberger said, and is still excellent compared to a year ago.
“We are running anywhere from $15 to $20 above last year’s weighted averages,” Rodenberger said. “There is nothing we can complain about.”
With fewer cow numbers, Rodenberger also talked about feedlots feeding cattle longer to maintain inventories and yield heavier carcass weights at the packer.
“We are continuing to produce more beef with less cattle coming out of feed yards,” Rodenberger said.
