On Tuesdays, Senior Farm and Ranch Broadcaster, Ron Hays, visits with Ben Hale of Western Livestock Auctions as he talks about the latest in the markets and more. Established in 1995, Western has grown into a multi-generational family-owned and operated business and stands as a symbol of tradition, excellence, and a deep-rooted passion for the cattle industry. Western Livestock Auctions is located in Oklahoma City, Woodward, and Comanche.
At Oklahoma National Stockyards yesterday, Hale said the cutoff was right at 6900 head. The markets continued to gain strength all last week, Hale said, with a rally at the end of the week.
βIt carried into Monday with all of those feeders 3.00 to 6.00 higher and some of those eight-weights up to 10.00 higher,β Hale said.
With plenty of good grass available in many parts of the state, full ponds, and good market prices, Hale said things are looking exceptionally positive in the industry.
βI think everyone is just trying to figure out what they can buy to turn out,β Hale said.
Most of the heavy cattle coming to auction are coming off wheat, Hale said, as the wheat has produced well this year, aiding in the quality cattle coming off.
Looking at the auctions in Woodward and Comanche, Hale said good runs are expected this week. Hale noted there will not be a sale at Oklahoma National Stockyards next Monday and Tuesday, but Comanche and Woodward will proceed as usual.
