Farm Director KC Sheperd is talking with the Communications Resource Officer at the American Meat Science Association, Christi Calhoun, about the association’s role in advancing scientific knowledge in the meat industry. The Reciprocal Meat Conference will be held at the OMNI Hotel and Convention Center in Oklahoma City on June 16-19. The conference, which celebrates its 77th anniversary, provides a platform for researchers, academics, and industry professionals to exchange information and learn about the latest developments in meat science.
“We are a professional society of about 2300 members associated with the meat industry in some way,” Calhoun said.
With a focus on science first, Calhoun said The American Meat Science Association prioritizes serving the industry, with an emphasis on attracting student talent to the meat industry through education and outreach.
“Everything for us comes back to science and creating facts and information for decision-making,” Calhoun said.
The Reciprocal Meat Conference will feature a lineup of dynamic speakers, Calhoun said, with expert views on many different facets of the industry. To see the lineup of speakers, click here.
During the conference, Calhoun said there will also be a workshop on communicating science and being prepared to handle conversations that may not align with the views of others. There will also be a service project taking place at this year’s conference, Calhoun said, where close to 800 protein-goodie bags will be put together for the Ronald McDonald House charities.
“We have a record number this year of 1,000 registrants, so it is going to be our biggest meeting ever,” Calhoun said.
