Bob Rodenberger Says the Cow-Calf Producer is in the Driver’s Seat

Listen to KC Sheperd talk with Bob Rodenberger about the latest in the cattle markets.

Farm Director KC Sheperd is visiting with Bob Rodenberger, a partner with Stockman Oklahoma Livestock, as he gives the latest on the cattle markets.

At the  2024 LMA Convention and World Livestock Auctioneer Championship last weekend (June 15), Rodenberger said 10,000 head came through the stockyards and the market was incredible with a great turnout of buyers and sellers.

“LMA said it was the largest crowd they have ever had at an auctioneer contest,” Rodenberger said.

Following the contest, Rodenberger said there were only 4,000 head sold on Monday, which was to be expected. At Apache, Rodenberger said numbers were 800 head over a year ago.

“The feeder market was higher if you can believe that,” Rodenberger said. “The calf market was higher again. There is just tremendous demand. Even though this meat is high, we are still moving meat.”

Regarding USDA’s Cattle on Feed Report to be released, Rodenberger said he expects fewer placements and fewer cattle on feed.

“In general, if you are in the livestock business or the cattle business, you have got to be loving it,” Rodenberger said. “The cow-calf producer is in the driver’s seat.”
