Ron Hays Talks Livestock Market Trends with Ben Hale of Western Livestock Auctions

Listen to Ron Hays talk with Ben Hale about the latest in the cattle markets.

On Tuesdays, Senior Farm and Ranch Broadcaster, Ron Hays, visits with Ben Hale of Western Livestock Auctions as he talks about the latest in the markets and more. Established in 1995, Western has grown into a multi-generational family-owned and operated business and stands as a symbol of tradition, excellence, and a deep-rooted passion for the cattle industry. Western Livestock Auctions are located in Oklahoma City, Woodward, and Comanche.

Numbers at the Oklahoma National Stockyards were a little higher than a year ago. Hale said, “We had about 4600 compared to 4200 a year ago. The market this week was very strong. Over 800 pounds, they called it steady to softer. You could tell that, but the heifer deal was extremely strong and better. The grazing cattle were higher again.”

Despite an elevated market for heifers, Hale says that people still aren’t buying them to build their herds.

Hale detailed that the five-and-a-quarter-weight steers, weaned, brought $3.11 – $3.40 per pound. Five-weight bulls bumped $3 un-weaned with no shots.

He expects 300-350 cows to sell at Woodward today, and tomorrow at Comanche will include several strings of feeder cattle and lots of pairs.

Hale can be contacted at 940-631-2333.
